Fireproof safe is one answer. You can keep a month's worth of income and expenses in it.
After that, I would go online and find a money market account that pays interest. Let your money work for you.

You could buy yourself a safe. Make sure it is a fire proof safe. You can keep it in your reach in your home but you won't earn any interest like some banks offer.

YES get you a debit card and just load your money on there yourself. you can buy one for 5 or 10 dollars at the currency exchange
