Vanessa Williams was Miss America many years ago, when starring in porn videos was still shocking. Also, if Tara Conner was Miss America, and not Miss USA, she probably would have been dismissed for her actions today. Miss America pageant has much higher standards for their winners than do the Miss USA committee - i.e. Donald Trump. I don't think it is a matter of skin color, just timing and pageants.

Tara Conner was Miss USA, Miss America is a different pageant. Vanessa Williams didn't have her crown for Miss America taken away, she chose to resign.

Partying too much and doing a nude pictorial for Playboy are not the same thing. Williams got paid for her photo shoot which makes things even worse. What's more Williams wasn't detrowned. She resigned and immediately released her first album and began her first music tour. She would not have been able to do either as Miss America, not until her reign was over. It was a smart business move.
