You have given hard drive space! Not ram! Ram is the issue here! You either aint got enough or you got everything but the kitchen sink runnin in the background!

You didn't mention what you use to play the videos. If you're using Windows Mediaplayer, it's a problem with the installation, maybe some files got corrupted. Reinstall it or download it if you don't already have it. Just type in "Windows Media Player" in your search bar and you should find plenty of offers to download it.

Also, your free space is fine, but what's more key is how much memory your computer has installed. Anything less than 512MB is really not up to today's software. A gigabyte or two is preferable.

The short answer is there is something wrong with the software. It could be the video player, or it could be something with Windows. I suspect it's the player software.

Download "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack"
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
and install it. The problem is likely to be with corrupt codecs.
Disable all themes and backgrounds running on your desktop. Install DirectX 9.0c. You should have atleast 512MB of RAM these days considering the resource hungry applications and processes running in the background.
This should resolve your issue of computer stopping when running videos.
If the problem still persists, then, I will recommend you to install the latest service pack of Windows you are using even if it has been installed earlier. Therefater install all the updates from Windows update web site http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
