Absolutely do the college thing. I'm 40(!) and going back to college for an MBA.
A) the older you get the less difference age matters at all
B) if you're willing to sacrifice your entire future because you're concerned that you'll be in classrooms with people a couple years younger than you, you need to consider your priorities and decide whether your own future is more important to you, or whether an idiotic comment made by some 18 year old punk is more important to you.
C) The felony conviction will haunt you for a long time BUT, not every company does criminal background checks, eventually it will be so far behind you that it will be irrelevant, and most importantly -
D) The best reason of all for getting a degree is that you LEARN things while you do it! Those things will help you create a better life for yourself in SO incredibly many ways, many of which have nothing whatsoever to do with your paycheck.
E) Lastly, did you know....... there are tax breaks for companies that hire ex-cons? The government has a significant interest in moving people off of its dime and onto someone else's, and it offers incentives to companies that help them do that.
Best of luck, man.

People value the City Year program very highly. That would be a plus to any college application. 22 is not too old to go back to school. And you'll be able to get more out of the experience because you experienced life a bit before going. There is a bit more variety in age at college now. It also depends on what kind of college you go to what the ages of the people will be. But at the end of the day, who cares how old you are and how old they are? You're going to school to better your life.
Yes it will be harder to get a job because of the felony. But there must be people out there with experience with this sort of thing. People who can give you advice on how to spin it when it comes up. You wouldn't be the first person with a felony to go to college. Since it's been done before there's answers out there for you. You just gotta go looking.
Good luck with your decisions. It sounds like you're on the right track. Stay positive!

You are never too old for college! The felony thing may hurt you, but honestly, I don't know how much. However, furthering your education, if you are willing to put in the time, effort, and money for it, will only help you in the pursuit of a better job. A degree can't hurt you, it can only make you more attractive to employers.
