You can make ornaments out of Play Dough. You form it into a cute shape (a Christmas tree or a stocking, etc) and stick a paperclip into the top (make sure it's inside the Play Dough and that part of it sticks out like a hook). Let it dry for a few days and you've got home made ornaments! I used to do this with my mom all the time... she still has many of them and we still use them to decorate the tree every year.
Another project my parents did with me and my siblings was the plastic Christmas wreath. You'll need:
Wire hanger, plastic dry cleaner bags, curly ribbon tied in bundles
ornaments, glue, large piece of cardboard, scissors.
Steps:
(1) Place bag on a large piece of cardboard. Fold bag in half lengthwise. Measure up 2" and lay yardstick across bag to keep plastic from slipping. Cut off a 2" wide strip. Cut strip into 7" lengths. Discard any pieces with printing on them. Set strips aside.
(2) Pull the bar (where pants would hang) of the wire hanger downward forming a circle with the hanger.
(3) Starting at the top of the circle, center and tie plastic strips to the wire circle. After tying on 25 plastic strips, tie a bundle of curly ribbon onto the wire. Tie on 25 more plastic strips then another bundle of curly ribbon. At the bottom of the wreath, make the curly ribbon lengths longer. Continue in this manner until the wreath is full and tightly packed.
(4) Glue ornaments evenly-spaced around the wreath. Cut streamers at the bottom of the wreath to different lengths then thread and glue a jingle bell to a few of them. Use scissors to curl the remaining streamers. Fold the hanger portion of the wire into a tight loop. Cover the loop with ribbon.

Here is a really easy gift idea...
you will need 4 yrds of fleece cut into 2 equal pieces.
(a print and a solid work well 2gether)
put them on top of each other, cut slits about 1 1/2 inches wide by about 5-6 inches long(or longer is you want more tassle length) all the way around. Make sure the slits are lined up with one another, top and bottom.
Then tie each set of cut fabric into a knot. But not the way you tie a shoe, (hold them together and tie a knot like you would if you had a piece of rope and put a knot at the end of it) but make sure that the knot is at the top of the slits where the slit stops, not the bottom. You can personlize these for people using their favorite color or theme.

You can make a little booklet with Christmas photos of everyone in your immediate family. Take head shots (just pictures from the neck up, maybe with the Christmas tree or lights in the background) of everyone and cut them into equal sized squares. Then take a 12"x3" piece of cardstock (or whatever size fits your photos) and make folds so that there is a space for each picture. Glue the photos onto the cardstock so that there is a space between each photo: say you have 5 photos. Glue 3 on the front and 2 on the back. Once you've done that, let everyone write what they enjoy about the holidays on the back of their pictures. I hope that wasn't confusing.

buy some lightbulbs, the little ones for decorative lamps, and paint them one solid color and let it dry. then paint a christmassy pattern on it, like santa, or just a snowflake. this is really easy to do with just a tooth pick. it's best to use acrylic paint, which sticks better. then wrap twine, or hemp string around the end, where you would normally screw in the light bulb, and glue it in place, making a loop. They normally come in a little box that you open from the front, and you can paint that too, so they are stored safely. the holes that the bulbs go into will have to be cut bigger, though, to allow room for the added width of the glue and string. everyone loves them as gifts, and they really make cute ornaments and they're so easy to make!

Here's a not-too-clichéd Christmas ornament idea--beeswax ornaments.
You need:
--beeswax from the craft/candle supply store
--molds from the candle supply store or molds for soap or candy from the craft store
--string, metallic gift-wrapping cord, or twine
Melt the wax in a double-boiler or a can inside a pan of boiling water.
Pour it into the molds.
Put a loop of string/cord/twine into the wax before it cools
I like to use twine and then tie a frayed bit of plaid or checked ribbon around the twine at the top of the ornament for a "country" look.
Bonus: Your house will smell yummy while you are making these ornaments

Purchase a grapevine wreath. If not already painted, use any color spray paint you prefer and then a glitter top coat. Then, since it is for Christmas, use artificial pointsettias and decorative holiday floral picks to fill either part or all of the wreath (one side as this will be hung on the wall or door). If only filling part of the wreath with floral items, you can finish it off with wide ribbon wrapped losely around the remainder of the wreath. The floral picks should stay in place on their own as you will weave them into the grapevine, but if you want you can secure them with a hot glue gun.
Gave one of these to my MIL last year and she LOVES it! Also, if the picks are NOT glued in place, one can replace the flowers to match the seasons/holiday.

I'm a scrapbooker, and my Christmas gift to several people in my family is a scrapbook calendar. I made one for myself last year, and it turned out really well. Many people admired it, so I decided to share it with others.
Basically, I'm scrapbooking an 8.5" X 8.5" page for each month along with a calendar page of the same dimensions. Each month has it's own theme according to the season or holidays of that month (December = Christmas, March = Spring, etc...) and a spot for a 4"X6" picture. I then assemble all of the pages together with ribbon in the form of a calendar. The idea is that each month, the person puts a picture they took that month to add to the calendar. By the end of the year, the calendar is finished and they now have a memory of the whole year to keep!

Here are some really inexpensive ways to decorate a table for the holiday.
1) Fill a clear vase one third of the way full with real cranberries and put a white pillar candle in the middle to create a simple centerpiece for a holiday table.
2) Fill a clear vase with an assorted collection of coloured Christmas ornaments
3) This one comes from the current issue of Our Canada. You can collect small branches from outside and spray them with a spray adhesive and then glitter. This creates a "snow effect". Then arrange these branches in small pots filled with Epsom salts. For variation, you can add sprigs of fake Holly berries (available at your local craft store).
4) You can buy small bottles from the dollar store. You can buy grape seed oil from the grocery store. If you add 5 to five drops of essential oil to the grape seed oil, you will be able to create perfumes to give as gifts.
5) Bake homemade cookies and put them in a decorative tin from the dollar store.

Go to Lowe's and buy the glass blocks. They can special order if they don't carry it in stock. Drill a hole in one side of the block. Put 100 count mini Christmas lights in it (Any color light is fine, but get the lights with white wire instead of green) Make a very large bow (Use the bowdabra if you don't know how to make large bows). Attach the bow to the ribbon wrapped around the block like a Christmas present. This has been a big hit with family members and friends.
