People try really hard to be weird on the outside so no one will get close.

To be accepted by other people for who you are is not your responsibility. One has to choose what kind of people they are around. If one only hangs with those people who care about the topical things in life these are not going to be the type of people who are going to look further into a person then what cloths they are waring.
Those who are going to care about the inside of another are not going to put one down for what they look like this day or that and are not going to care if you are rich or poor. These people are or can have a conversation with anyone. There biases and prejudices are not going to get in the way of a great conversation. These people only care about the "meat" of a person, that is the inside and these make the purest and best of friends.....
My thoughts...

Because very few of us accept OURSELVES as we are. we spend a great deal of time and energy presenting the person we would like to be to the world and rarely expose who we really are. It's no wonder relationships fail, they are built on false pretenses. How can people accept you for who you are if they never got to know that person? Think about it do you really know who you are? If your not sure nobody else can be.

Because for some odd reason, it is human nature to judge a person based on their appearance. And that just plain sucks.
Take for instance Britney Spears. She is a beautiful person, appearance wise. And she gets judged because of her outward beauty. While that is not fair, thats about all she has to go on. Once you get to the person she is underneath, shes not that likeable (IMHO)
She is young, yes but for Petes sake g/f - LEARN from your mistakes. She comes across as white trash and I know that is harsh but its the Gods honest truth (IMHO don't forget)
Even though shes outwardly beautiful, the way she acts and presents herself, not so much.
That didn't really answer your question, I know. I got started rambling and couldn't stop. Just call me Volvo girl.........

It is hard sometimes. A lot of people tend to judge on externals. I think, though, the people worth knowing will make an extra effort to know the real person.

It's hard because a lot of times we don't accept ourselves so why should someone else.

Because people have a perception of us and when we dont live up to it, they are disappointed, instead of just accepting us for who we are to begin with.

sometimes, people are just looking on what you are physically, they do compare them (usually, it does) to you. If you get the qualifications, they do ignore you but it isn't be that way, the important is the inside...

agree w/ sue b., im like that.
the question isnt
"why is it so hard to just be accepted for who you are on the inside?"
its... " are you how people see you? or how you see yourself?"

Its natural selection. Our little animal brains think that if the person isnt so hot on the outside less chance of offspring being pretty so less chance of them mating so less chance of our genetics being passed on.
