Why don't the children chit-chat among themselves? Don't they have anything to say?

You pose an interesting problem. Boring is bad and exciting is better. Some of the families I work with get into fights during family get togethers. Some just verbal but physical fights can be exciting too. Name calling, blaming other family members. Making up vicious gossip might be exciting. It just depends on how far you want to go for excitement. Some of my foster kids shop lifted, that is exciting, running from store loss prevention people. One criminal psychologist said that there is nothing more exciting than doing the forbidden.
As for me, I could use a lot more boring. Your family sounds good to me.

My family does "white elephant" every year and it is a blast! If you don't know what that is it is where everyone buys a random gift and you give everyone a number, which determines when your turn is. Whoever is one gets to go first and pick a present. Then two goes and they can either steal the first present or get a new one. Presents can only be stolen twice though. It is a lot of fun and I look forward to it every year!!

There are several games out there for use in groups/in teams... Cranium, Pictionary, Scrabble, etc. If there is snow, how about a snowman making contest? What ages are the "children"? What about making bird feeders out of pinecones, peanutbutter and bird seed? Or making popcorn and cranberry garlands and hanging it on an outside tree for the animals?

Help out with feeding the homeless or doing something nice for those who don't have it so nice. Get all the kids involved, bake cookies, make gift boxes, and deliver them to 'shut-ins'.

On Thanksgiving, my WHOLE family played Apples to Apples, the game.

It was so fun! I have never had so much fun at my grandparents' house.

I'm 20, so I'm similar in age to you...if it was fun to me, I figure it would be to you also.

Borrow the adults cars and have a demo derby, or maybe practice jumping each others vehicles.

Play monster trucks.

(Don't forget to wear your seatbelts.)
