and if you're missing the mate, what do you do?

I reall prefer for them to match but it dosent always work out that way, especially near laundry time. If I'm missing one I try to hold off on throwing it away because I usually find it somewhere, if too much time goes by and I havent then I pitch it

Yes, my socks always have to match until the day I'm too old to care & senile ! "If I'm missing a mate I use the misfit for cleaning or jsut toss in in the garbage !

My socks have to match. Only if I' am running late, I wear mismatch socks.

I prefer it but they don't have to. If have only mismatched ones I find 2 that are about the same thickness and wear those.

Mine do, I will find another pair if I need to. My 2 older sons are this way too. My baby deliberately wears his mismatched to aggravate his brothers, though- lol. Hubby could care less.

Sort of. I have to colours of socks, black and white and not all my black sox are the same brand but as long as they're black I'm fine.

I always buy at least three identical pairs, once two go missing you still have two pairs left
