I wanna start to sell a couple things on ebay,but ive come across things that suggest i need business papers and all them apples to buy wholesale.This true?,or can a regular joe buy wholesale.?

buying wholesale is as much knowing where the wholesalers are as anything else.
businbess papers are easy.
to go the full route, call irs and say you want an ein. you can do this on the phone in 10 minutes. then you have a federal tax id number. this one item allows you to buy wholesale as much as anything else. to avoid unneeded tax paperwork NEVER buy and not pay the sales tax on the transaction right then. it would take a thousand words to explain the hassles if you dont'.

next is call your local news paper to find out what it takes to file a DBA. Doing Business As*. With this you can open a bank account. with an ein, dba, and bank accopunt you are a legitimate as you have to be.

if you want to go one step further, get a city/county business license, but i advise against that for a variety of reason, not the least is probable hassles, expenses and road blocks.

* various states call this different things. ficticious name, statement is an east coast moniker, dba, west coast.

First, NO supplier is going to sell you one piece wholesale because that makes you a broker and a competitor.

Then you will have to get a resale permit from the State. It is not expensive and they will explain the process. The State is going to get their sales tax one way or another and YOU will have to pay it after the fact.

I work for a large electronics distributor and we buy at a significant discount. We also have 2 retail locations and about 20,000 feet of warehouse space for inventory.

If someone comes to us for wholesale pricing and is not going to take a case or inner pack they get NOTHING. If they buy an inner pack (6-12 pieces) they get maybe a 5% discount and a case gets a 10% discount if we see potential for growth.

Now here is a hint. Look for a Chinese manufacturer that has just opened an office in the US for the product that you want to sell. Clean up, be respectful and pitch a great story for success. THEY WILLSELL WHOLESALE to ANYBODY!

You should also look at the excess inventory sites and surplus dealers because you can buy for a dime on the dollar without a bunch of BS.

I had a guy come into the store with a bunch of stuff that he wanted to sell and didn't know what it was. He had 400 pieces and I knew it would take us 5 years to move it. I called some of our friendly competitors and they all signed up for the deal. I bought the whole batch for $2 each. Then I sold 300 pieces at $2.50 to our competitors and kept 100. We have sold out of our 100 pieces at $9 each and our customers are HAPPY (this thing sells for $22 on Ebay)

Know your market, know your product and buy right.

I also have a friend that sells backpacks on EBAY and makes a reasonable living.

You just have to step up as a player and buy in quantity to get a Wholesale price.

I am a current ebay powerseller. I have done ebay over the years as a living. I have attended many seminars and rubbed elbows with Pierre Omidyar (founder of ebay) .
