Drug abuse doesn't expand your mind, it makes you an idiot.
What you think is expanding revelation of the universe, is actually the universe contracting around your static mind as perception and proportion diminishes. Like someone staring into the sun until he can see only one color, and claiming enlightenment because now he can see all the colors that enter his universe.

It's too bad you can't ask Adlous Huxly. He wrote a very interesting article about his experience with Mescaline.
If you want to find the 'secrets of the universe' you might wish to consider transendental meditation as a spring board. From there, maybe a study of Kaballa (an ancient form of Jewish mysticism). Quantum Physics is a good place to start out too. For an easy introduction to Quantum Physics, see the movie "What the BLEEP Do We Know".
I'm not going to give you the 20 minute delux lecture about using drugs. I'll only tell you this, that trying to find the secrets of the universe with drugs, is like trying to get to Jupiter, by driving a Pickup Truck. Oh sure, you MIGHT get there one day, but only if some one builds a road that way. So far, no one has, and it's unlikely anyone will. If you want enlightment, sorry bud, you'll have to get it the old fashioned way with a lot of mental discipline, meditation, and study. Otherwise, you're just buring up good brain cells that could be put to better use.

PCP, now that is a drug that is more physical then mental. I don't think PCP is a good one, but the rest probably help some what. Just write down the ideas, I know a friend who said he had the best idea ever when he was high, and he wrote it down so he would remember it. The next day he read what it said, and it said, "clean your desk." Well, it works for some people i guess.

In order to better understand the nature of your world, it is
very helpful to see things from alternative perspectives.
For example, it is difficult to appreciate the ballance and
grace of the Statue of Liberty while you are standing at her
feet. But take a plane ride and see her from above, and
you gain a new appreciateion for her by simply changing
your perspective. I think of psychedelics the same way.
You can certainly explore the secrets of the universe
without them, but it does help to change your perspective
every once in a while. Of course, you can reap the same
benefit by simply having a conversation with another person......

The shamans of all cultures will call them sacrament. I know they are keys of this world. They are catalysts, they have a time. You can use them to see other very real dimensions they actually rewire the physical pathways in your brain. They are not for everyone they are not merely substances. They do hold real power. I think of them as entities (guides -be careful not to fall into worshiping them ie addiction)and believe the natural ones to hold merit where the manufactured ones to hold devastation and counter fit power. At the end of the day they don't compare to the direct power of the living God, They are keys of the world, they are for some a stepping stone when the need for confirmation is in order......If I were to entertain a theory of evolution even for a second I might guess this 'Medicine' to speed things along. For me God is all I need (now *wink*)

I have found that the stronger drugs you mentioned do
(on very rare occasions) enable a receptive mind to tap
into "cosmic entities" (for lack of a better term); such as,
4X: the sense of universal benevolence ... but in general,
and on the whole, strong psychedelics are too distracting
to allow for vigorous and sustained rational thought. It
may *seem* otherwise while in the high-zone, but it
rarely pans out in the sober light of day. ... But pot is a
whole different barrel of fish. Pot tends to relax the mind,
and *can* allow for philosophic efforts to proceed. Sartre
might disagree with me; but then he was a special case,
and I'm talking about people and dope in general.
