The techtonic plates on earth are composed mostly of the continental and oceanic crust, and a small sliver of the upper mantle. This is called the Lithosphere, which means the solid outermost shell of a rocky planet.

If I remember correctly, oceanic plates are made of gabbro, sheeted dikes, pillow basalts and pelagic sediments. Continental plates are much more variable, depending on the local geology. A sample representative might be: dunite, eclogite, gneiss, granite, Paleozoic marine sedimentary rocks, sediments.
