Hey~
Quick question- I had an interview the other day and at the end of it the interviewers point blank asked me, "If we were to offer you this position, would you take it?"

I was taken back by the question at first and am still curious as to the meaning behind it.

Would you think they were genuinely interested in me and that is why they asked? Do you think it was a "sign" that my interview went well?

Where they just trying to weed out the serious from nonserious candidates (however wouldn't you be seriously thinking about the position if you were there to interview)?

All you interviewers out there-- let me know what you think!
Thanks in advance for your time~
Jenn

after the interview you may have acquired more information about the job- ie benefits, pay, vacation time, policies, expectations, etc- and you may have decided from that information that you do not want the position. I am sure many qualified people go to interviews and find that the job they already have is better but they aren't going to just say it at the interview. They complete the interview and go on their way to save face. If they get the job they don't take it and the company has to go through the whole process all over again, so it's just helping the company to know for sure what you are looking for.

Jenn, most interviewers do NOT know if you want the job or not. Noone lets them know anymore. If they asked you, then, yes, they were interested in you coming to work for them. (also your interview went well) Just because you went to the interview does not mean you want the job. You might have found out during the interview that your old job is much better than you realized...personally, at the end of interviews, I always suggest the seekers to let the employer know whether or not if they want the job. Ask for it, but don't beg. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

,yes that is a normal question..obviously if you interviewed for the job then you would take it, unless there was some sort of discrepancy..i.e. salary, hours, days off, benefits.
you could say.... I am looking forward to working for your company, unfortunately i will have to reevaluate the salary/ insurance or work hours......or you could say yes

yes i think they're satisfied and now comes the haggling part.
Depends on the salary cause the benefits have all been placed in their Ad.
Something like they're trying to reassess your wage limit... you know if you say yes without asking, "how much salary your willing to give?" then you'll be given the minimum. If you say "depends on the salary" then they know and probably get near max wage limit.
