Am I locked into printing from the memory card only? Do the printers require special inks?

Most regular printers will print 4x6 and have card slots and they are cheaper than 4x6 printers.

They want $130 for a 4x6printer for my camera.
I bought an Epson CX5000 All-In-One printer, copeir, scanner for $80. It prints 4x6 prints without having to be connected to the computer and it will accept most memory cards also.

Yes you can. But do some research first. And ask your self a few questions.
1 Do I need a printer
2 Do I print a lot of pictures.
3 Do I want to make prints bigger the 3x5 the printer.

If you do not do a heck of a lot of printing pics...its cheaper to go to Wal mart , Walgreen's etc. and most will allow you to send on line to them and pic up in an hour....Now if you do want to print a lot of your own pics then do like i have done . Get a nice Epson printer and a bulk ink supply kit ( Continuous feed system) we are talking 100.00 to 200.00 for a great printer and another 250.00 for the ink system (pre filled) But that is cheap. The cost of these ink cartridges is nuts. I even use a cheap printer for my paper things (BW) I get a cheap Lexmark for 22.00 and toss it when the ink runs out. The ink is 24.00...do the math. But Photos use the most ink and the best quality. So like I said do some aking of your self. Most people are just as well of getting a store to print them.

If you want to print the pictures as a hobby, thats fine. But when you do it at home, you need to buy archival ink and archival paper, for the pictures to last a long time. I print my own, with just my canon printer, and they come out just fine. It cost about 10 cents a picture to get them at your local cvs store, and when you do them yourself it will cost more than 30 cents per picture, by the time you add the ink and special paper that you should use. I don't use the special ink or paper, I just like to do it for fun. The pictures that I want to keep forever, I take to the store. To answer your question, yes you can connect it to your computer..Good Luck..

you can print files from you hard drive as well. I would get a printer that is compatible with the type of memory card that your digital camera uses. also make sure that the printer has drivers that are compatible with your operating system...

be warned..printer paper and the photo cartridges do not last long and are expensive.
