Hello All & Thanks (Upfront). I just went 2 court today & got results of a paternity test (father denied child as his own) & then I was awarded child support -once proven he was the father. I live in N.J. & am currently unemployed after being put on bed rest & then "let go" from my position- once I was not able 2 return back 2 work (due 2 the baby & complications). The place of employment only hires in the spring, so I'm patiently waiting for positions 2 open up (Because I'm trained in my field of work). My question 2 you is, will I get awarded more in child support once I start work in the spring? A friend of mine said yes, but I'm not 2 sure as 2 why?
Example. He now makes $1100. *before taxes a week & I make 0.00
When I start working I'll make about $800. - $1100. a week before taxes & he will be making the same $1100. a week.
I dont understand & honestly not even sure if it's the case, but if so - why by me working will I get more in support? Due 2 daycare expenses or what??

In some if not most states, the earnings of BOTH parents are looked at when determining child support. So if you are working also, then your wages would also be looked at and the support ordered to be paid from the father would be likely to be decreased.

This won't happen automatically, but if he went to court and requested a change, he'd probably get it if you live in a state that calculates child support that way.

Your rate of pay has nothing to do with support, it is all dependent upon the number of children fathered by the specific father and how much the father makes. If anything I would have been worried that once I went back to work then I would LOSE money since I was making more. But fortunately that's not how it works.

Child support has nothing to do with your wages,it is the wages of the father or person who has to pay the support.
It is for you to help feed and clothe the child, doctor and medical bills for the child, you cannot spend any of the money on you or anyone else. Child support is reviewed from time to time and is subject to change. It generally ends when the child reaches the age of 18 or other situations occur.

I'm not sure how that works but he'll have to pay all back child support so don't worry about it I say you'll get about
$125 per week.Good Luck
