Clamshell has no idea what he or she is talking about.

You can call the police. They will call a tow for you if you have not done so already. Police tows usually respond faster, but your still responsible for the tow bill. If your blocking traffic, they will sit behind you with their lights on to help block on coming traffic as it is a safety issue. They will not issue a ticket because your car broke down, because it's not illegal for your car to break down...

Also, chances are the police will not push or help push the car for you because of liability reasons.

You can always call the police for a road side emergency and that is what you are describing. In some jurisdictions, the only legal access to a towing service is through the police

UK answer - It is illegal to block a car in a driveway and is obstuction and the Police are the ones to deal with it. It is NOT illegal to block a driveway to prevent a car getting into a driveway The health of the person who owns the driveway makes no difference. parking on the pavement is an offence and initially again you need to contact the Police who may redirect you to the parking enforcement dept. at your local council as a lot of councils deal with this now in place of the Police

Dude...what planet are you from??
If you call the police you just get your ticket faster.
They will give you a certain amount of time to
remove your car and issue you another ticket if this
is not done. They will then tow your car to an impound,
where they will charge you xx amount per day,
until you can pay to pick up your car.
Then you will have to show up in court to
explain your sorry a ss....
So moral of the story...don't call the cops, call a friend..
You don't have to go far ...
just far enough to be leagally parked.

yes you call 911 and they will send someone to push it off to the side but i do not think they will tow it to whereever you want it to go. i was in the same situation and my car broke down and was blocking traffic and the worst part was i was in the middle lane on the freeway with a trafiic jam, i called 911 and they said someone would come in but then luckily before they came a couple of good guys helped me and pushed it to the side.

You could use the police non-emergency line instead of the emergency line (911)
