Okay-enough! I can't believe it! I heard on the news that the average was $900. My husband and I don't believe in credit cards. We pay cash. I have spent over $1000 on him about $800 on others. He has only bought for me and spent $4500 on 5 gifts. It is a sad wake up call in this country of freedom when every person an't buy whatever they want, and still eat good tomorrow.:(

I would think an average family will spend somewhere between $500 to $ 800 dollars on the holidays. It usually is broken up to as when your payday is also! If it falls on December 27th say it will be less than if it falls on the 22nd of December. It all depends on the availability of cash or good savings!

Way too much. For some reason people in the US equate basically causing themselves financial hardship for the rest of the year trying to pay off this years gifts with Christmas. Although I don't have any experience myself, I have heard from others about how much they spent at Christmas time and I almost fell out...

Christmas is a season of giving and it is supposed to be more symbolic than monetary...

Heard recently on CNBC that the average household spends $800. Per person that would be about $300. Don't forget those jackasses who buy Lexuses skew the averages.

I'm doing my part to bring down the average.

I think it's in the range of $600 - $800. Can you believe people spending over $2,000 on those Sony Playstations when they first hit the stores? That is nuts!
