My boyfriend is a little niave... and since he's from Brazil he is sort of SOL on American Football. He recently started to play and finally my dad had him watch a Seahawks game. He played for our school and score 4 touchdowns in one game! Then he asked me about Portland's NFL team... I stared at him and said, "we don't have one... we just got Seattle." he was quiet and probably saddened. He told me that everystate needs a football team... like Brazil. I knodded and smiled and then I started wondering... what if?

In Brazil (rest of the world, actually) it's different. If you want to create a team all you have to do is fill some papers, call some guys, pay them the minimun wage (or not, your team can be amateur) and it's ready. So almost cities with 50.000 inhabitants have teams. There are lots of divisions and to play the first division you have to win the lower divisions. So it's two complete different systems, hard to compare. I prefer the Brazilian system anyway.

Football/Soccer in Brazil and every other South American country is a religion. Soccer is worshiped and played there year round, so I understand is comment made regarding every state should have a team here considering how much Americans love football.
Unfortunately Portland is not a big football town so he will just have to keep scoring touchdowns for your school and having you cheer him on.
In the meantime get him caught up on the NFL at a steady pace so that he can relate with the guys on the team.

I doubt it highly. Look at Huston Texans they started 4-5 years ago and they still blow. If Oregon did get a team they would be horrible for a few years. The best teams right now have atleast 15 years on em'. Chicago- Like 1st team ever. Eagles-Pretty old too.
Im from LA. Someone told me that kids in oregon get 6 days of school per week. Is it true? Cause that sucks

I lived in Portland for 10 years, we don't have the population or the culture to support an NFL team. They tried and couldn't bring NASCAR here either.
Now, a coffee drinking team? That would work there...:)

yeah, like the NFL is going to give Portland a team before Los Angeles, the second biggest market in the nation?!
Be happy that the state of Oregon has two major college football teams in OU and OSU.

Get everybody in Oregon to move to portland and maybe you will get a team that might make the playoff's in about 100 years. what would you even name it??? The ducks is a stupid name and does Oregon even have beavers? Does anyone really care?

Uh, no, spreading out the talent thin among at least 50 football teams would make for some lousy pro football.
Teach your alien boy to like college football, that's what he needs.

Portland Irish Setters? Portland Thunder? Portland King Crabs?
I don't know...what is there in Portland except Trails? What would you name them? ANd would there be enough interest? It seems like it would be a small market, although the city is international...

I would guess the market would not be there in Oregon. A 50 team league would be tad superfluous
