Probably because it's harder to identify the sexual predators but we think we know what killers and gangsters look like.

gangs, murderers, and sexual offenders are all unacceptable. However, the mental anguish behind the act of being sexually offended can cause a life time of suffering. Its something that doesnt heal like a knife wound or being beat up. also, the fact that 75% of sexually offended citizens are underage.... children and babys are the targets for sex offenders. this is where the morbidity comes from.

Possibly because gang members and murders are more likely to go to jail and stay there. Jail time for rape and other sexual crimes is pathetically low. Also, sexual crimes are harder to prove, so chances are even higher that these criminals are still functioning in society and looking for new victims.
Finally, to be raped or sexually assaulted is a tragic thing for a person of any age or gender to experience. A person can spend a lifetime trying to get over the trauma... a lot longer than a gunshot wound. And sexual acts are supposed to be a part of expressing love, no one expects to exchange being shot to show love for one and other.... sex is something a person is expected to relive after it is virtually destroyed in his/her world.

If someone is a gang-bangin murderer they don't really try to hide the lifestyle they lead. Sex offenders on the other hand always hide their true intentions towards their victims. They come in the form of coaches, teachers, the nice guy/ lady next door, preists, etc... Just look at the rais they are doing on dateline, guys talking to kids on the computer in ways that they would never talk to them in the company of others.

Actually my opinion is that nobody wants to get hurt in anyway,shape,form or fashion. Each one of these cases are inhumane. Each one is a violation towards the victim (s). (Now my question to you is:)
(1) Would YOU be afraid of being raped regardless if your female or male?.
(2) Would YOU be afraid of some gang members beating the crap out of you,and nobody's there to help you?.
(3) Would YOU not be afraid of being murdered?.

well sexual predators look like everyone else....or at least are perceived to look like everyone else. so having them in your midst without knowing it is hard to handle. gang members for the most part are proud to be a part of their gangs and are very easy to spot and stay away from. and most people think so highly of themselves that they don't fear death by a murderer.

i think another reason besides jail time is that when people are sexually abused, here are problems some people have that effect them for even a lifetime:
difficulties with trust, fitting in, sexual behavior, and relationships.
