I will tell you how this happened so maybe you can tell me what is wrong.

I was riding my skateboard and I had to bail out quick, so i tried to run it off, but couldnt so I had to jump down this hill.
I jumped and made it far down the hill, but when I landed, i was sliding, and my left leg went out in front of me and then my knee locked and my leg was stiff. My heel hit a sprinkler and my knee went back and I fell head over heels. I knew something was wrong, but I can sort of limp walk so I figured it was fine, but when I got home it got way worse. After examining my leg I have found out that the muscle running up the outer side/back of my leg was stiff towards the top and is contracted and will not release, so my leg is very tight there and appears swollen. Some people have told me that they think I hyperextended it but I am not sure.

Please help me I am in track and need to be running soon!

There are likely a few things going on here. You have most likely strained your hamstring muscle, which is the muscle at the back of your leg that is responsible for bending your knee and moving your leg backwards. If it hurts to do these things, it is very likely that this muscle is the culprit. If this is the case the best treatment is to ice it and leave it alone DO NOT STRETCH. Stretching at this point will only make things worse. Hamstring strains are notorious for taking a long time to heal. Be patient don't try to push through the pain. You should consider seeing a health care professional if it is not better in 4 weeks. It is also quite likely that you sustained damage to you ACL, which is the ligament in you knee that keeps it from hyper extending (straightening too much). The interesting thing is that the hamstring and the ACL do much the same thing at the knee. So, with your hamstring being shot, the ACL is exposed to further damage, and with a compromised ACL, your hamstring has to work harder-causing more strain. Talk about a rock and a hard place. Anyway, just ice and leave it alone for a few weeks.

Woah buddy, bailing downhill... could have been worse. Anyway, 3 possiblities. First one is you could have jammed your knee very badly and possibly pinched a muscle and/or nerve in the process. Knees are tough and can take 1-3 weeks to ease out of pain. Second is you could have torn a ligament which is BAD. Torn ligments may never heal on their own and you may require surgery to repair. My friend just had it done, best part about it is the morphine...thats it. The third posibility is you hyperextended your knee, which by your story, is the most probable answer. I have hyper extended my knee slighlty before and it HURTS so you probably did a significant bend on your knee. If it doesnt loosen 4 days after the incident you may have issues. Try massaging it and I suggest using a warm compress and Icy Hot, Ben Gay, Mineral Ice (all the same thing, pick one) on your knee as often as possible and STAY OFF YOUR KNEE!! I am not a doctor and nor am I there, so I cannot diagnose you but I would suggest you go see your doctor to make sure you didnt tear anything since that could end your track career instantly. You definately should not be running though until you make sure you didnt tear anything. Excercising too soon could quite possible lead you into long term pain, like weather forcasting with your knee. Trust me, you dont want that.

Well, lets see... If you heard or felt a pop or had a popping sensation in your knee during the fall, you may have torn one (or more) of the 4 ligaments that connect your leg bones together. First off, Try to take it easy on it. Keep it iced and immobile when you don't need to use it. I would take Advil or another anti-inflammatory (if your under 18, seek parental guidance or a health care professional before taking any OTC drugs) and keep it elevated for at least a few days. If it doesn't get better on a couple weeks, you may need to see a doctor. Dont push it to hard, you may have a minor problem that could get worse if you put to much pressure on it to quickly. Hope this helps (I just tore my ACL 7 months ago, been there, done that). Good Luck
Greg

I don't think you pulled a muscle. A hyperextension is possible. Rest and ice are the best things for now, wherever you have pain, including your heel. The tight hamstring is likely that way because it is holding onto an injured area. If it does not improve soon with rest and ice, I recommend seeing a doctor.

You strained a muscle or hyper extended it. The only thing you can do now is rest it, use anti-inflammatory medication (Motrin), and DON'T run track until your doctor gives you the OK. Running on the muscle now will only do more damage and make the injury worse.

Haul your limping butt to the ER now! Before you get foolish again and tear up what is left of your knee. My dad would have wrapped it ice and taken your butt up to the ER.
