Two ways to do this:

One way is to think about it logically:

Divide 40 into groups of 5. There are 8 groups of 5 in 40. Each group of 8 is called a "fifth" of 40. So, 3 "fifths" would consist of 3 groups of 8, or 3 x 8 = 24. Therefore, 3/5 of 40 is 24.

To do this problem using arithmetic, it would look like this:

3/5 of 40 (the word "of" means multiply)
3/5 x 40
3/5 x 40/1
120/5 (mulitply 3 and 40 on top, and 5 and 1 on the bottom)
120/5 means 120 divided by 5, which is 24.

There ya have it! :)

3/5 is the same as 3 divided by 5
40 is the same as 40/1
you can multiply 3 times 40 then divide by 5
you can divide 3 by 5 then multiply times 40
if the question was 3/5 of 1/4 you multiply the the two top numbers in this case 3 and 1 and then multiply the lower numbers 5 and 4 keeping the product(answer) in the same place. Therefore, 3/5 of 1/4= 3/20
3/5 or .6 or 60% of 40 = 24

What is 3/5 of 40?
3/5 of 40 means 3/5 times 40 or 3/5 times 40/1
When you multiply two fractions together you multiply the numerators together and divide that result by the denominators multiplied together. So in this problem we take 3*40 and get 120. Then we multiply 5*1 and get 5. Then we divide 120 by 5 and get 24.

If you are familiar with decimals, you could say 3/5 = 6/10 =0.6
So now you just multiply 0.6 times 40 and get 24

In maths, you can take 'of' as a multiplication sign.
3/5 of 40 = 3/5 x 40 = 3 x 8 = 24

Treat 40 like a fraction, 40/1.

Then multiply 3/5 times 40/1.

Multiply the numerators, 3 * 40, which equals 120.

Then multiply the denominators, 5 * 1, or 5.

The new fraction, 120/5, can be reduced to 24.

3/5 of 40 is 24 :)

Whe I see the notice of in a notice project that's a key notice for multiplication. Now in basic terms set up the maths project.... 3/5 X 40 you may remedy this through turning 40 right into a fragment: 3/5 X 40/a million Simplify: 40/5 = 8 So...3/a million x 8/a million = 24 yet in any different case to think of of that's remedy for 3/5 first... 3/5 = .6 Now multiply .6 X 40 = 24

First: "of" means to multiply:

= (3/5)(40)

Second: multiply the numerators:

= 3(40)
= 120

Take 120 and divide by the denominator:

= 120/5
= 24
