Interesting question.

I agree with you. The idea of "outer space" makes us look bad, because we STILL think that we are in the middle of the universe when we have pix and proof that we are in the outer part of space.

What should it be called, then?

space?
the other parts of space?
lack of oxygen parts of space?
over there?
somewhere?
or should there be location directions? (N, E, S, W)
the general term that is shortest to describe seems to be outer space...

Space is a generic word that can be something like a parking space. Outer space is the vacuum outside the atmosphere.

yes we are a tiny speck of dust, just think that the sun is only 8 light-minutes away from us, some galaxies are upto 13.23 billion light years, so yes we are small.
