At Surprise.com, we gave some thought to appropriate gift ideas for that special person who’s always on the lookout for knobs to twist, levers to push, and buttons to click. So we sent our team of researchers out with instructions not to return without a couple dozen neat gadgets that worked really well. Herewith, is what we believe to be the ultimate selection of useful gifts for the gadgeteer.

How is he on is Ipod or Cell phones??? Does he take good care of them???

...If so then I would go with a PSP just because it is very well put together device. It's beats the DS hands down. He can play games, watch movies and videos, listen to music, and save files on it for school.

Plus the device is geared for more "professional" gamers. So it might make him think that you think he is a grown-up or growing up or responsible. My nephew recieved one for christmas and it was hard to get it away from him.

The UMD's will be going down in price if not becoming extinct because consumers don't want to pay $20 dollars for a PSP movie and pay the same price just for the DVD version.

Does he do a lot of exploring? If so there is a 6-1 flashlight of sorts at Wal-Mart. It has a low beam, high beam, blinking light, siren, radio, compass, and it doesn't require batteries. You just wind it up steady for 30 seconcds and it gives you 1 hr. of power. This also depends on what function is used more.

What about a swiss army knife??? These can come in handy!

Does he like planes or helicopters? Maybe a build it yourself model plane or car will interest him.

Does he have a lot of friends and do they come over a lot? If so I saw a game at Hastings bookstore for upto 4 players. Each one grabs a control and watches the center. When it lights up the first person who presses the button doesn't get zapped and the others will. A LOT OF FUN!!!

What about some walkie talkies? These are rather inexpensive and can make for a lot of fun.

PSP - 480 x 272 pixels
DS - 256 x 192 pixels

PSP - 16,800,000
DS - 260,000

PSP - 32MB - 4MB DRAM (plus memory stick)
DS - 4MB
