Alrighty then, my mother got me a gift, and I took a peek at it out of anxiousness. This gift turned out to be one of the same gifts my mom had got me for my birthday only one month earlier. If I tell her directly then I'll get in trouble for sneaking a peek. I could tell my dad but there is a chance I'd still get in trouble. It is 5 days til Christmas. If I tell her when I get the gift on Christmas then she might feel bad and I may not get the thing I wanted that would replace that. What do I do?

I would say be gracious and accept the gift - obviously she had a clue what you wanted but no way of knowing that it had already been gotten. Don't say anything - it would just hurt her feelings.

Instead, return it and get something else that you would like.

Think of your mother here -- she will be stressed enough as it is for the holidays ...

So my recommendation is to just open the Gift on Christmas Day -- and be GRACIOUS -- Thank jher for her thoughtfulness, and do NOT mention that you have something similar from only a month before.

Then ... if she placed the gift receipt in with the gift -- you can go exchange it for something that you wanted ....

OR ... you can re-gift it to someone else that your mother does not know.

I'm confused. If your mother got you a gift for your birthday, wouldn't she remember she got it ... especially since it was only one month ago?

Is one of these mothers a step-mother? Then it would make more sense.

In any case, accept the gift graciously. You can exchange it after Christmas. But, be sure to explain WHY you are exchanging it.... be nice when you explain and don't make her feel bad.

If you tell when you get it on Christmas she might feel bad? You think she's going to feel better about it today, knowing she got you a duplicate gift AND she has a kid who sneaks around and looks at gifts?

When you open it, be gracious. Laugh. Say, "This is such a perfect gift that you already gave it to me once before!"

Then later you can exchange it.

Now stop looking at your gifts. How obnoxious!

Just Accept with a smile !
Telling them before Christmas would hurt their feeling!
You can always tall to them after words and get it exchanged or maybe gift it to some other loved one!

Keep Smiling !

Tricky situation. Her feelings are more important here, so don't say or do anything that you know would hurt her, especially during Christmas.

You can always re-gift it to someone else, since you already have one like it. Just make sure you give it to someone your mom doesn't know.

I would say be gracious and accept the gift. Let a mouth go by and give it to someone else as a gift.

well, if it's clothes, you could ask for a reciept
1. because it might not fit
2. i have one just like it
3. i would like something more practical

If its not clothing
1. you could use what you got for your b-day alot, hopefull your parents will realize and return it b4 christmas or your parents will tell you on christmas, sorry we didn't realise you already had this, but we didn't have time to get you something different.
tell us what you want or they'll give you a gift reciept

good luck
God Bless

:P

Maybe you could bring out the gift you got for your birthday and tell your mother how much you like it.

Say thank you and tell her nothing. It's the fact that she thinks enough of you to give a gift that's important, not whether it's what you wanted or even like it.
