I have been on two interviews for a position I really want. I followed up with the interviewer today, and she said that I might have to be called in for one more interview and that she is making the decision right after the holidays. I said that I would be available to come in again, and she said that was good since she was on the 3rd round of interviews.

What does the 3rd round mean?? She has had 3 groups of people come in over a period of time, or does that mean there are several people coming in for the 3rd interview??? Just wondering and waiting...

It means the interviewer has completed the first round of interviews with all the candidates for the position, then narrowed the field on conducted another round, and narrowed the field some more and is conducting a third interview. Your chances are good.

These days, and believe me, it is very frustrating for EVERYONE, many companies make you go through quite a few interviews. I had to go through five just to get a waitressing job, and that was 4 years ago! It really depends on the company and if they hire recruiters or an employment agency or if they have their own HR department. The interviews are supposedly to weed out the non-dedicated and test your promptness. It also, in my opinion, is a way for them to test how many 'hoops' you will jump through for the company you do not even work for. I do not believe that this process is always the best, because the majority of people who are able to go through this process and make every interview are not employed. The employed ones may have already called off one or two days to have these first interviews and are not willing to do anymore because they aren't looking to call in a lot for a job they might not get. If you are an employer and this person is able to attend all these things, then what are they doing during their days? If they have another job, it is rude to keep them coming back. Theoretically, they could probably do all the interviews throughout the day, but then they would have to work so they would not like it. ;)

If you make it to the third interview then you have not been 'weeded out' yet. You are willing to jump through their hoops, and you are a good candidate. Third interview does not always mean anything, though, I have been through many first, second, third, fourth and fifth interviews but still do not get the job. Those are the situations where you really feel like you wasted your time and the company wasted your time.

Means that there are several people coming in for the 3rd interview. Remember to be Calm, Cool, Collected, and Confident (the 4 C's) while you are interviewing, and send her a "Thank You Card" or handwritten note, thanking her for her time interviewing you (since you know how busy she is), and how interested you are in the job, and hope to be working again with her soon, immediately after the interview is over!! I mean, IMMEDIATELY!! That way you are keeping your name in her mind, in addition to good manners on your part. Good luck!!
