I am really upset that I lost out of getting a Wii this weekend due to some guy paying people to stand in line in groups for a Wii and retrieved 8 of the 12 available Wii consoles at a Target in Detroit. After they got the consoles, all of the participants went to his car and placed the consoles in the trunk! I saw him giving money to them. I was furious, I started to say things relating to what they were doing, but my husband told me to forget about it. So I wanted to know, are these actions legal. Thank you.

Yes, it is supply and demand and if they get a buyer at double the price it is in demand. You pay what the market will bear...that economics simple as I can make it.

No it is not illegal for people to do that. It is American capitalism and greed that drives people like that. The only thing this guy might not have counted on was the fact that the Wii is cheaper than both the XBOX 360 and the PS3 so most people might already have them, and if someone wants to pay double on EBAY then thats their problem. I am sure if youlook hard enough you will find another store that still has a few left. Is it unfair yes, and I agree with you, but there is nothing that can be done.

No, simple law of economics, supply and demand. Is it right? Probably not. There is no law stating one game console per person on the planer. If I were you, I would wait at least a year until purchasing a PS3 or Wii. Let the brands get all the bugs out of their designs. I learned this the hard way when purchasing the PS2 and Gamecube on or around release date. Waited on the Xbox and have had zero problems with it.

There is no way to enforce a limit on how many of a particular item a person can buy. Stores may have a policy such as "One per customer" but I doubt there is a law against people hiring other people to purchase merchandise, which they then buy from those people.
Once the item leaves the store it is the property of whoever paid for it, and they can do what they want.

It is not illegal for people to sell anything (with in ebay rules) on ebay for any price. If someone is stupid enough to buy at double the retail price then that is their problem

Nope. It's supply and demand. They can offer any price, but the sellers don't have to buy it.
