It sounds like you are part of an Italian family, right? Well, anyway its common and normal for families to get together for Thanksgiving and Christmas and talk about something. Politics or religeon are terrible things to talk about at that time, its bound to cause an arguement. Likewise it could also be the football game, which can lead to an arguement about which team should win. The thing to do is lay down ground rules after dinnner is done. After dinner tell everyone "no arguing or hit the road. That probably won't work but you can try and if it gets out of hand tell everyone it was nice to have you all here for the hoilday but next year the dinner will be at your house.

The idea is to get together and not argue. Mine nor the wifes family have arguing when we get together for any day. Life is to short to spend fussing about small things like this should of been done this way or you do these things that you should not. Be thankful you get the time together and if you do not like someone do not talk about or to them. If you do not like the food you do not ned to eat but what you want. Just enjoy the time together. A lot of people just nibble at a get together instead of eating. Make this acceptable after the diner is served and another room like the den/tv room where some eat or do not and those who wish to be social can set and eat at the table. Explain to look at and enjoy the bright side. Never dwell on the bad or it will consume you like it has so many others. If people wish to make things miserable ask them to leave and let them know ahead of time that it may be asked if they are. We want a good time. I just pick at the food sometimes when the wifey's sis or step ma cook but she is welcome to do the same or just have her coke and not eat at my family's because it is about being together and good times.

I've had this problem, too, but only with 2 people out of the family. We always celebrate the holidays at my house, so last year I told them they could not sit next to each other at the dinner table. I separate them every time something starts up before it gets out of hand and make sure they are at the opposite ends of the table. Try to seat people with the one they won't argue with! Good luck and Merry Christmas.

it isn't special if everyone argues. i try to make it a goal every year at my house not to start or keep an argument going. the holidays should be a time for family to gather and reminisce on all of the good times they have had together. but it often doesn't turn out that way. if you don't want to arguments to happy you have to be commit ed to keeping the peace at the table. try to keep bringing up good times and keeping the spirit merry. i bet things will go a lot smoother.

Although a christmas dinner with nobody fighting would be better... Wouldn't you miss it if one day you had no more family? Even if it was a family who fought all the time?
A fighting family is still a family, and I bet that they would still be the ones who were always their for each other, despite their differences.

I thought that was what holliday dinners were for. Everyone gets together and then all the crap comes out so that everyone can get along again later in the year.

I thought the family arguement was a Christmas myth never happens in our family. Not claiming to be a model family, I guess we are just better at repressing than others.
MERRY CHRISTMAS.
