MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- Only the eighth earthquake ever in Oklahoma County was registered early Thursday. It followed the seventh quake by just a few hours, officials said.

Experts think the epicenter of the earthquakes was near Air Depot Boulevard and Reno Avenue.

The first earthquake rattled residents in the Midwest City-Del City area at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday. The second shook at about midnight. It was a tad stronger at a magnitude 2.7 on the Richter scale.

Experts with the Oklahoma Geological Survey said there is no need for Oklahomans to start worrying about earthquakes like they might about other natural occurrences.

"I'd say I'd be a lot more concerned about tornadoes than earthquakes in Oklahoma," said Dr. Ken Luza, a geologist with the OGS.

More than 700 people e-mailed the geologists at the OGS with stories about how the quake sounded and felt.

"If it had occurred in western Oklahoma, it would've gone unnoticed. It happened where people live," Luza said.

Some Oklahomans reported a third earthquake on Thursday afternoon near Fairview. However, police officers in Fairview said it was only a sonic boom from a nearby military aircraft.
