There are a lot of mildew growing on the walls of the room which I hang my clothes to be ironed. Will it spread and stain my clothes too? Should I re-paint the room? Would that help?

You should definitely re-paint but first you'll need to wash the walls with a mildew remover. Your paint store should be able to suggest something. But in the meantime, the clothes in the room should be fine as long as the room is not closed up and the clothes are in there for a long time. The more important issue is the fact that mildew is not good for you to breath in and some people are allegic to it.

It may spread to your clothing. I would suggest that you wash the walls and ceilings with a mildew remover and then purchase a paint called KILZ. I had a mildew problem in my bathroom and used the KILZ paint and then regular paint over top of it and my bathroom has stayed mildew free for 3 years now. But, you also need to determine what is causing the dampness in this room. Maybe a dehumidifier would help. The KILZ paint can be purchased wherever they sell paint (Lowes, Home Depot, etc)

Clorox will take away mildew instantly. But before you use it be very careful. I have to get rid of mildew in my bathroom due to the fact that my bathroom has no window and a barely working air vent. Put on some old clothe and some safety glasses to make sure that you don't get any in your eyes. But Clorox or bleach will do the trick! You may want to use a face mask also due to strong fumes. And yes, eventually it will spread to your clothe if you don't follow up with these instructions.

Yes it Will spread to your clothes. Find the source and resolve the problem from the root. Before you paint the room you must scrub walls with 1/2 cup of bleach in one gallon of water (use some dishwashing detergent, just a little bit).

Your best way of removing it is to use 100% bleach but you must use proper clothes, gloves and mask. Ventilation is a must. (open window). If you have respiratory conditions DO NOT USE 100% bleach.

Yes, the mildew will spread to your clothes unless you remove it. You'll want to dehumidify the room and scrub the walls down with a strong cleaning solution. Then seal, prime, and repaint it.

Good luck!

Mildew on the walls is way more dangerous than getting on your clothes . . . people die from black mold .
Covering with paint will NOT kill the mold . . .
Advise the landlord stat OR if you own the home, call a professional company to come remedy , possibly the ones that tent and gas with ozone.

Not sure about spreading to your clothes unless they are damp. You really need to find the source of the mold and kill it firstly, if its just because the room is damp then your clothes will be damp then yes, your clothes can also fall victim. If its just damp get some damp-rid, then kill the mold on the walls, bleach -water will do. If its something behind the walls, get it fixed, kill then kill the mold, if painting is what you want to do, they have this paint called KILTZ, it will paint over mold spots, tou still have to clean the walls first. (please open windows) GOOD LUCK TOO YOU

Use old bakery tip to clean .. mildew, rope, mold
First clean with strong solution of bleach.........
then let it dry...........Then wipe it down with pure vinegar..........all of that stuff is dangerous especially the mold.................remember it may not look dangerous but it can be.........
NOTE: The vinegar will help to keep it from returning and the bleach will kill it.
PS. The correct name for the paint is KILZ
use after the other steps.
