Does anyone else out there not know their true age or birthday? For example, I was born on the side of the road in Greece, and all they know is that when I came to the USA I was somewhere between 6 months and three years old. The generally accepted guess is that I am about fifteen (and that's what I tell people when they ask), but I could be anywhere from 14 to 17 years old, maybe even eighteen.
If you are in a situation where you don't know your age or birthday (or both), what were your circumstances that caused you to not know? Does it affect you in any way now?

I'm not asking for opinions or solutions. I'm asking if other people on Yahoo Answers have the same situation, what their circumstances were, and how it has affected them.

My nephew is adopted. He was born in Columbia, and lived on the streets when my brother and sister-in-law adopted him. They didn't know his birth date, but guessed him to be about 7 years old at the time. There are no records on his actual birth, so there is no way of finding the true date. They gave him a birthday that is his legally. He is now 30 years old. He celebrates his birthday every year as enthusiastically as anyone else, and has embraced it as his birth date, and his true age. He says it doesn't bother him not to know the real date, or his age for sure, because it wouldn't change him anyway, even if he found he is actually a different age. He says he celebrates birthdays for the life he has been given. The date isn't as important as the fact that he has life. And really, that's why we all celebrate our birthdays; not for the date, but for the life we were given. :)

Well, so much as I affecting you, I dont think so, but definitely not knowing your real age and birthday is odd and will make you feel different and maybe incomplete. But it's not the end of the world.
Perhaps someday you could be able to go back to Greece and find out about your birth records or something.
But dont worry, you wont be less because of this.
Oh, and Happy Birthday, maybe today could be your birthday and no one knows, lol, just kidding
Merry Christmas

Isn't there any way you can verify your age through Immigration records? I know that in a lot of foreign countries, statistics are not kept as accurately or consistently as they are in the U.S.
This hasn't happened to me, but it did to my mother who was born in the Ukraine. Records were not kept, so she never knew her exact age until it came time for her to draw Social Security. Somehow, it was discovered, through records taken on the ship that she came to this country on, that she had been eligible for Soc. Sec. for three years prior to when she actually drew it. In other words, she was three years older than she thought she was. Not only that, but the birth dates of her and her sister were switched. My mother was actually born on my aunt's birthday, and vice versa. However, since we always celebrated mom's special day on a certain date, we kept that as her birthday. The sisters always argued about which one was the oldest, and it was discovered that my mom was actually the baby of the family of eight siblings. I don't think it really affected their lives in any way that mattered, and it shouldn't affect yours either. Fifteen is probably as close as you can come to your actual age, and unless there is a way of proving it otherwise, just let it be. Good luck!

how did you get into the US without a passport or ID of some sort? Some one will have it, do you have parents? Did you come from an adoption agency in Greece? Someone should know something...you could always save up and get a PI (private investigator) or detective to help you out

Whoa, you don't know your own age? Sheesh..I feel sorry for you.
If I didn't know my age or birthday I would let some archaeologists do a radioactive carbon dating test on me to see the half lives of my isotopes and therefore determine my relative age.
hehe =)

You can have a bone scan done at any hospital and they can tell you within a week how old you are. All they do is x-ray your hand. Takes 10 seconds.
