I am in High School right now, junior year. For being absolutely honest with you people, I've always wanted to study something exclusively related to money, and therefore I have decided to choose a major in Business (Finance, Accounting, etc). But now, I'm not so sure, I dont know if that's what I really want, if that is going to fulfill my life, and make me feel happy in my future job, or even if I'm really going to be good at it.

I really dont have a specific talent, I'm good in Math, but not so much as I am with reading and writing skills.
Additionally, I must say that I'm also very shy and I dont have many socializing skills.

Well, I'd be pleased if you could advice me about a major according to some characteristics of mine that I listed above.
Thanks

Stonegirl, stop beating yourself up. You're only a junior in high school. However, I'd do an online personality/career assessment to find out what you want to be when you grow up--no offense intended--they really do wonders. There is no sense in doing a job you might hate later on. Confusius said, find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life. That is so true. Find out what your strengths and weaknesses are, so you will be happy later on. It sucks not being happy in what you do in life. You also might want to consider job shadowing someone for a couple of hours so you can ask them what they like about the job, etc. Good luck!!

Admire that you are thinking about your future so clearly. Never too early to start considering. Going to a Workforce Commission and looking at all the career possibilities and what the long range demand will be. Have found that the university is a sheltered environment with its' own society and have seen students struggling to make it out those ivy covered doors into a harsher reality. Many with general degrees that offer them meager options in a specializing world. Figure the first two years you get all your basics completed for any degree. By then you should have a good handle on your strenghts, weaknesses and desires. There are careers without walls in nature related fields or maybe you'll become a researcher or Human Resource specialist.....myriad of options open to you. Enjoy exploring.

I started to ask myself what I wanted in life, and then set some goals and dreams. Then I went searching for the best vehicle that could get me from where I was that day to the realization of my goals and dreams. AND I FOUND IT. What if you had your own business and grew it to the point that it took care of your wants and needs AND allowed you the time to do the thing you wanted to do? Well, I know just the business opportunity, it's on-line marketing -- you get paid to shop and paid for referring others to shop. There's a tremendous variety of ways to grow the business, so many that you're bound to find a way that fits your personality. It's incredibly fun, simple, and profitable. You get the rewards of helping people realize their dreams, it is the most satisfying thing I've ever done. If you have the slightest interest, contact me at hoozdaboss@aol.com and I'll make arrangements with you to show you more details.

I know you said you weren't very good with people, you didn't have very good social skills. Well neither did I, but this business has the most incredible training system that gives you EVERYTHING you need to succeed except one thing. . .you and your ambition.

Do what I did; major in Public Management.
They need people with good math skills.
You do not have to have good social skills.
I rarely even meet people at work.
The hours are very reasonable.
The pay is good.
The benefits are great.
Lots of vacation days and lots of holidays.
Even a company car.
And a LOT of state universities now offer Public Management degrees via internet. Go for the state universities, not the private colleges.

Good luck!!

Someone who is shy, antisocial and good at math could be very happy as an accountant! Of course, if you ditch the shyness and become social, your career could go right down the toilet, so think about changing yourself! Lots of folks your age are shy...though you may not see them that way. Take classes that challenge you to become less shy like public speaking and volunteering to answer questions in class. Force yourself into social situations.

Go to college and take courses. You will know when the time is right on what your major is. Take courses that you love and are good at. College profs can help guide you. You are only a junior in HS. Take it easy and pray about it.
