Hi Kara - I like this question! It shows sensitivity on your part cuz EVERYONE has a "good old days."
I miss growing up as a little kid in the '50's, when we had NEIGHBORHOODS. Everyone wasn't competing with everyone else, we just shared our lives and got along and enjoyed life.
We didn't have air conditioning. In nice weather (or hot!) all the windows and doors were open, and we all knew what was going on around us.
If people had a car, it was generally one to a household. We had telephones and doorbells, and those were our primary methods of communication.
Almost every household had kids (no reliable birth control!) and we didn't have much in the way of electronics besides a radio and a TV that got three channels, so us kids played outside and had a ball. Life was FUN!
People sat out on their porches in the evening and drank beer or lemonade and talked. We all knew each other, all up and down both sides of the street. Lots of us still keep in touch, in fact.
Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't give up having my own car, or air conditioning, or this lap top. You can never go back once you've been there! But I do miss the feeling of being a part of something bigger when I'm alone and shut in in my home

This may sound strange to alot of your answerers but the thing I miss most is "the wireless".We never got TV until 1960 so every night the whole family would gather round and listen to our favourite serials.Doors were always unlocked. You trusted your neighbours and they trusted you.Saturday afternoon matinees with a newsreel,2 movies[Usually starring Randolph Scott,Gene Autry,Roy rogers or Audie Murphy,to name but a few plus cartoons.{SIGH} Oh for the good old days!

Every age has it's plusses and minuses, depending on your status in society. But I would love for my children to have had the freedom to wander the way I did when I was a kid. We lived adjacent to some very nice farm land and woods, which I traipsed over freely and safely in the 60's and 70's. I would never allow my own children to do this when they were little in the 80's and 90's. There's too much to fear now. I wish children today could have more long, peaceful, lolling around summer afternoons, not filled with running from one activity to the other.

I would like the class of the 30's, 40's and 50's to come back.. Everyone dressed up to go to church, social events, the movies, out to dinner, to go shopping, to fly on a plane, to take a train. All the restaurants had linen table clothes, china, silver and crystal. The supper clubs all had little lamps on all the tables and you would listen to a real live orchestra while you were eating your dinner. When I see the way that people dress today I just wonder how much more casual everything will get. I wonder if our grandchildren will ever get to dress up for anything. It's kind of sad.

I miss being able to leave the front door and windows wide open all night without the fear of being burglarized. I miss thinking boys were fun to play with, instead of crying over them. I miss thinking everything was always going to be ok because the world was good and no one wanted to hurt me. I miss never worrying about my stomach not being flat enough, my breasts being too flat or why I can't seem to cover up my undereye circles. But most of all, I miss having the time to spend with my loved ones. We're so busy these days. All of us.

I don't remember what it was called but it was a candy bar made out of coconut that had a pink (strawberry) stripe, a white (coconut) stripe, and a brown (chocolate stripe), kind of looked like a wedge of neopolitan ice cream only it was made out of coconut. It was so delicious....

I miss my extended family. I wish my children could experience the family picnics, holiday gatherings and weekly communications that we had when I was younger.
