Its like cable tv, you pay for a connection, but you aren't paying for the content to be created. In fact, its worse. When you pay for cable tv, at least a little will go back to the tv stations because the cable company pays to carry the stations, but with the internet, none of what you pay goes to any websites, it only goes to your ISP, not Yahoo or Google (unless you have the SBC/Yahoo service). So Yahoo must make their money somewhere, and ads are a good place to make money for a free service (remember, you're paying your ISP, not Yahoo).

the same reason why when you pay for your cable or dish tv you get commercials. These ads are just that.. if you don't want them you could try an ad blocker and see if that helps... otherwise just ignore them

did you know the real reason why they made TV's were for the commercials??? someway they turned it around and made it for the shows.
