It's an older iMac G3. The operating system won't boot up and I can't get the CD out to install a new OS.

Hello badboynheat,

Okay, here's the list.

* Drag the CD icon into the trash.

* Make sure that files that are on the CD aren't open. The Mac won't let you eject while something is open.

* Hit the eject keyboard (if your Mac has a special eject key). You may need to hold this down for awhile.

* Click or highlight the disk icon and hit the F-12 key

* Click on the disk icon and select the File > Eject or hit the Command + E menu command.

* Finally, if you've lost the disk icon but the CD is still in your Mac. Restart your Macintosh and hold down the mouse button. The Mac should eject the disk on start-up.

I hope that this will be able to work for you.

I wish I could really help you on this one... I have an iMac G4 and I had that problem a few times, so I had to keep pressing the eject button continuously. I also had to manually open the door to the cd and tried ripping it out. I'd call Apple support and see what they could recommend to you so you don't break your computer.
