There are two methods, either finger plucking, or using a pic. The notes are still the same if you know how to play guitar. If you need to learn fast, get a DVD showing you the chords and how they sound first. Just reading notes and where to place fingers will not give you the feel...unless you are a note reading person...vs. an ear person. ; )

It would probably be easier if you started with a beginners course for the regular guitar. The bass is really just the top four strings of a guitar except much thicker and with a longer neck for lower notes.
