off the top of my head, you can actually use limewire file sharing p2p program

http://www.limewire.com

there is an option to connect to an exact IP address of your friends computer. then you can load files into a folder which your friend can view and download directly. but it probably wont work if you are behind a router or possibly a firewall.

YES, and the above post mentioned setting up a network. This will work if your friend's computer is on the same network. You can set certain folders as "shared" so anyone on your network can view files in that folder. Then its as easy as drag and drop.

My ISP is EarthLink, and I upload files all the time to my ftp space, then I download them to my laptop computer, and vice versa. FTP is faster than sending an attached file to yourself by e-mail. I use Sprint PCS for a wireless internet connection to my laptop computer. It is convenient for me to do it this way because both computers do not have to be on at the same time. For example, if I am on the road, I can upload a file from my laptop computer to my ftp space, then when I get home, I can download the file to my desktop computer.

What you will want to do its make yourself an ad-hoc network and setup a shared drive with both computers to transfer files. you really dont need a wireless router if you use this method.

network with a router like the above says, or, if the two computers are near each other, purchase whats called a twisted-pair cable i believe. this will allow you to directly connect two computers with one ethernet cable. Or you could burn it to a cd or use a flash drive.

New Idea: You could just email it to yourself as an attachment and then pick it up on the other computer!

Yes there is. You'll need a wireless router to do it. When you get one, you need to set up a wireless connection and enable File Sharing, then set up a Wireless Network.

if they are on the same wireless network, or if they are both on the same combination network (so you can access the other machine directly) you can just drag/drop.
If they are remotely connected (via internet or such) you would need some software to handle the connection, like IM or file sharing.
