Yes it is, but it's been gone for a long time. As long as there's love in the home, that's a family.

That depends on your view of a "traditional" family.

I'm a stay at home mom of my 8 month old daughter. My husband and I have been married for over 2 years, we live in a house and have 2 cars. He works 40 hours a week for an insurance company.

Does that count? If so, the answer to your question is no.

The loss of the American family has lead to massive numbers of children that grow up without fathers, especially, which results in girls who seek out male companionship and boys who lack respect for authority.

In my experience, it isn't obsolete, but a necessity. I grew up with divorced parents, too, but they lived close to each other and got along for my and my brothers sakes. It may be lost in many cultures, but a "family" will never be obsolete.

That ideal will never be obsolete, but they're few and far between. I came from one and I have one myself. Most of our friends are like minded and have traditional families too. However, we all know more single parent families, families who treat their kids like nonentities, or kids that get passed from one family member to another because their parents are unstable or MIA, than we do families like ours ... that is a sad commentary about our society and our self-centered life styles!

I grew up having to be @ dinner by such and such time and now scheduling my meals around practice and work and school responsibilites....it seems to me traditional went out the window once women became a stronger part of the work force. Now our lifestyle of the basics once supported by 1 breadwinner now requires 2 or many hours @ work for the one or even 2 jobs for one/both. I would have to agree with you....It is not the same these last years........

Yes it is. My life now is a world apart from the way I grew up. Previously the whole family gathered for our meal at the same time each evening and it would have been unthinkable to not say grace first.

It's alive and well. Just look around -- or change your social circles.
