Well they caught Vanessa Williams in some revealing photos of her and another female, engaging in some making out sessions and other lude lesbian acts. That is why they took her crown away from her. Yes they also found pornographic images of her too. The news came to light when adult magazine Penthouse announced that they would be publishing the photos in their September 1984 issue, without her consent. After several days of media frenzy, Williams chose to resign her position on July 23, 1984. The crown was given to Suzette Charles (making her the second African-American Miss America), 54 days before the start of the pageant for Miss America 1985. At the time, many believed Williams' reputation would never recover from the scandal.

She didn't do porn she just posed nude with a another woman (only kissing her forhead). It was published in a magazine, and back in the '80s to even to do nude photo shots of shoulder-up necking photos was already considered racy for any highly respected and famous celebrity. It's nothing as worse as today, but still all the same, that's how Vanessa lost her crown in 1984 and her title as Miss Black America.

She posed for penthouse in 1984. They took her crown away claiming it was a bad example to pose for a magazine that exploited the women's body. What a bunch of hypocrites. Suzette Charles took her place as Miss America. She didn't let that affect her,she is very talented and has managed to hold on to her career despite all this.

Yes she was photographed in playboy and that is why they took her crown away. There is a rule about that in the Miss America Association
