I am left handed at least partially because I write with my left hand and I am also a math geek. However, I also have many other interests which include etymology (the study of word origins), history, Egyptology, and genealogy to name a few. My wife claims she's a computer widow because I spend so much time researching and doing other things on the Internet.
When I was younger I toyed with the idea of becoming a doctor and concentrated on biology in my early college years. But it turned out that later I became more interested in mathematics, although I graduated from college with a double major. Years later, while researching my family history, I discovered that my family background was replete with medical doctors. A paternal great-grandfather was an M.D., as were great-great-grandfathers on both sides of my family tree. One was even a plantation owner, a part-time schoolteacher and saw duty as a surgeon for the Confederate army during the Civil War. Additionally, there were numerous great-great-uncles, and great-great-great-uncles who also earned the M.D. degree. There were about ten in all.

I am, unfortunately, neither a math geek, nor left handed, but I am writing to let you know that you may be disappointed with the results if you use Yahoo Answers as a poll tool, it just doesn't give you enough answers to do a reliable survey with. However, I happen to know that left-handedness does indeed seem to have something to do with math "geekness" - congrats on having that! Somebody needs to be a math genius.

I happen to be left-handed, but I don't think left-handed people are naturally better at math. They do have an advantage in spacial reasoning, which is a right-hemisphere function, and that should help in visuallizing certain types of problems (e.g. geometry). Analytic ability, however, has too many other components for you to say lefties or righties have a natural edge.
