Looks like there are something going on with his father in terms of relationship

#1 threw him a line, holding rock = support

#2 Father becomes his uncle = trust changed
Jumped and falling = rejection

The way I see it, he is seeking for some sort of approval from his father. There may be something going on that his father does not like his decision making and even though he is looking for support from his father. Somehow he turns away from him. Projecting him as uncle is a shift of trust and jumping and falling could mean he feels rejected in some way. This dream is basically about how he feels about the support or words from his father. He may be into some sort of argument or difference in terms of decision making with his father.

Or... he feels the need to break away from the security his father represents (become more independent and his own man) and is feeling some sorrow about it.
