Love is desire. If you love someone means you want to possess him or her. Too much love means you desperately want to own him or her (or it). Then you will do anything to get what you want by all means whatever it is right or wrong, thereby leading the disaster.

Too much love can only cause disaster if you don't understand the love.

This is truly a deep & thought provoking question....nice!!There is countless examples of disasters from around the World due to this very topic in mixed situations...e.g. The Love of Power & Wealth has brought down hundreds of civalizations,,,,,The Love of Greed or Land has destroyed habitats and human beings accross the World....The Love of a certain religon has been the number one cause for more death & destruction throughout all recorded time due to the topic of Loving it so much......wars,rituals,sacrifices,insanity??ETC!!
Even with all this mayhem where would we be a a human race if we did not have our failures of the past, present, and possible future to reflect on??? Wow....it really makes you "think"......huh?

I don't believe that too much of a positive thing alone can cause anything negative. Love, true love, is one of the most sublime feelings. How can it possibly cause any disaster...?

I think you mean addiction and obsession can cause disaster. Love is the positive energy in life.

Loving someone too much so that you overlook his/her shortcomings are a surefire way to disaster.
For example, a girl loves a boy so much she does not care if he sleeps with others; her love has blinded her to the guy's unfaithfulness and rotten character.
Another example, A boy loves a girl so much he does not notice when she treats her parents and brothers/sisters badly. If they ever get married, he is in for a big and unpleasant surprise.

Loving yourself or other? Self indulgence can be disastrous.
Loving another person - if it's a mutual thing - is great; you found your soul mate. If you're the only one who feels this way, you're asking for disaster.

If love causes one not to correct the beloved, things can go seriously wrong. That is not too much love, but misdirected love. Real love, there can never be too much.

If one person loves another person so much that they lose sight of their own needs, then this can cause problems.
Every person has legitimate boundaries and legitimate needs. Letting the person you love repeatedly violate your boundaries and not meet your needs is dysfunctional. It is unhealthy.
It is entirely possible to love someone a huge amount, and still not let them violate your boudaries and still have them meet your needs.

Too much love can distract you from the reality you were previously in. But if your new reality is one of love, it doesn't sound too disastrous. Let your love grow and you will find that the only thing disastrous is the thought that love is disastrous.
