On your first prenatal visit:
** expect to answer few questions which will be recorded on the prenatal card. Some questions include your last menstrual period, any previous pregnancies or miscarriage, few medical histories including past ailment or surgeries, your blood type, few familial medical history, and about few of your personal data.
** Your height and weight and vital signs (blood pressure, temp, heart rate) will be checked and a urine test will be done.
** Your tummy will be measured (depending on when you are going for first visit, it is not done if visit is too early). Few physical examinations are done.
**You will be required to to do blood tests : to see if you have any anemia or any abnormalities, to check your kidney function, to check your blood type even when you know it, to check for few diseases such as STD and HIV, check for releavant antigens or antibodies. Pap smear maybe done. All of what will be checked are for you and the baby's well being benefits. Results for these are required for the second visit.
**Doppler can be expected being done to listen to fetal heartbeat. Scanning Ultrasound are usually done after the 21st week or so.
**Internal examinations are not usually done. Ifever you have some complains which makes your pregnancy to be in some suspicious problems just like being an ectopic, then a vaginal ultrasound will be done to assure your pregnancy is alright.
**You will be given few advice and some vitamins prescribed ( iron and folic acid) and will be scheduled for your next visit. Reassurance is another important thing you can expect.

Basic things covers what I mentioned. Take care and good luck!

I know my first ob would do the same as what the other ladies are talking about. Sending you for lab work(or doing it), pap test, urine test, and then usually a gift bag of sorts with magazines and prenatals.
However, my last ob with my last 2 children gave me a vaginal ultrasound with each of mine at my first visit. Just to check if he could see the heartbeat and to make sure everything was on schedule.

At first the OB will interview you, when was your last period, are you taking some drugs, what are youre activities are you working, stuff like that. of course you make sure you take a bath because you OB will examine youre abdomen and I.E. you. In laymans term the doctor will finger you..It feels ackward at first but you'll get use to it. its for your own good so dont refuse, she will just check if you have infection and things like that..just wear a long skirt so you wont have a hard time taking off youre undies. after the interview and examination the doctor will give you some advice and some vitamins and iron supplement to take..she will also recommend that it is good for you to drink milk for pregnant woman..And if possible get a female OB so youll feel more comfortable when she's examining you and talking to her .

I just went in a few weeks ago for my first, I was about 9 weeks along and I couldn't believe how much stuff they did considering this my third pregnancy... well, they take a complete history (apparently even if they have it on file), they do a pap, check the heart beat if you are far enough along, check your breast for lumps, check the ovaries and uterus by pushing on the outside... I was there for about an hour then sent to lab for blood and urine... so expect to be there a while.

Lots of questions about family history. Call your mom and get the run down. This info is very important to your doctor. Other than that an exam, blood work and make sure you get a prescription for vitamins. Oh and make a list of questions for them. I always forget to ask something I was curious about, while your there you get distracted listening to them.

Not all in the same order but this is what happens: Most insurance companies only pay for 2 ultra-sounds, and most Dr's wait till your at least 22 weeks round about, and then again closer to your delivery date.

Weigh you in
Urinalysis
Blood drawn
Listen to Heartbeat (that's definitely fun - take a recorder with you just in case)
Pap test
Blood pressure taken
Estimated conception date
Estimated delivery date
Answer any questions you have
Give you your next appointment date
Congratulate you

Weight, blood pressure and urine sample checked. Blood will be drawn for standard tests. A pap test will be done to check for syphilis & gonoreah (which is standard). I also had a TB test done, which I was told was fairly new. You will have a chance to ask your OB questions, so make a list so you don't forget any. You'll be given a prescription for prenatal vitamins or samples. If they don't give you samples, ask for them. Most OB's have tons of sample prenatal vitamins. I am 30 weeks pregnant and have gotten all mine from my OB. Until you're about 20 weeks, the visits are monthly and pretty uneventful - other than getting to hear the baby's heartbeat, which can't be heard with the doppler until around 12 weeks. Congratulations and best wishes.

You can expect plenty of questions. If you by any chance go with your partner to the first visit, then at one stage during the questioning they (doctor or midwife) will kick your partner out to ask you some questions regarding really personal matters(relating to abuse and all)

well generally be prepared to be violated!!!! Your obgyn will usually do a vaginal check, as well as tests for std's and a pap. you will probably have blood work done and urine tests done. Don't get intimidated though... it isn't as bad as it sounds! Just be prepared to have a doctor check you literally from head to toe.
