Its very bad for the unborn child. Secondary smokes inhaled can be as potion as primary. Stay away from all smokers at all costs. Its not worth the risks. Should you have visitors in your house that smokes, advise them to refrain or advice them to leave. This is not the time to be courtest.

Smoking in pregnancy can affect your baby, not just before birth, but also in the future. Here are some of the effects of smoking while pregnant:
* Smoking raises the levels of carbon monoxide in your bloodstream. This reduces the amount of oxygen available to your baby.
* When you smoke, harmful chemicals reach your baby.
* Nicotine constricts the blood vessels on your side of the placenta, which means oxygen is passed over less effectively to the baby.
The result is the baby grows less well than he might have done, and he'll be born lighter than otherwise. This might make a great difference to his health at birth.
There are also effects on brain development and on the general health of your baby, which have been shown to last into childhood, and even beyond. There is also a great deal of evidence that men who smoke when their partners are pregnant also affect the baby's health - whether or not the woman smokes herself.

There are so many reasons why a pregnant woman should not be smoking... not only for those already mentioned, but the baby will also go through an addiction and nicotene withdrawal when it is born.... that alone will be harmful after birth! Tell her to talk to her dr. ASAP and hope that the dr. can wake her up soon enough
I hope the answers given to you will help you convince her now!

Considering that you call it "ciggies" and spell it "pregnet," I'm not surprised that neither you nor your sister know the dangers of smoking while being pregnant. Obviously, she cares very little about the unborn child she is carrying or his future, either in school or his health. I feel sorry for the child.

Actually it's not okay....some women still smoke when they are pregnant...even it is just a little puff to kill the cravings?....Usually the child may end up being slow...espacially in speech and early child development...in the early months of pregnancy is the most crucial, that's when the organs are developing....so ciggies could do harm in the development...best to tell her to stop...there's no telling how bad the damage can be....just don't wait till it's too late....

In addition to all the other answers here, a fetus will also develop nicotine dependency (aka addiction) along with the mother. This means she'll have newborn baby suffering from Niccy-fits. She'll have to have a smoke and then breastfeed the kid to quiet his cravings and jitters. If you've ever been around someone trying to kick smokes, you know how nasty niccy-fits are -just imagine a newborn baby in the thralls of one!

Smoking while pregnant is bad because it makes the umbilical cord smaller in diameter, meaning that the baby while in the womb receives fewer nutrients. During the nine month crucial developmental period, especially in the development of the lungs and respiratory organs, a baby needs not only a smoke free environment, but also a drug-free, alcohol-free, healthy and well balanced diet.

No, it's not OK at all. The more she smokes and the later in the pregnancy, the worse.
It increases the chance of low birth weight and preterm delivery which can result in serious health problems for the child or chronic disorders.

No it isn't ok. With all the information out there, you still have to ask here? She should know better. The cigarettes give off poisons in her lungs and this is passed on to the fetus. The fetus is not getting the pure oxygen it needs to grow healthy. Anything could go wrong with it's development.
