Bettas don't eat much - you can probably feed your betta every other day. However, I prefer to feed mine twice a day, but small meals. They eat 1-3 pellets, twice a day, 6 days a week. On the 7th day, I don't feed them, to let their intestines clean out. It's not necessary to fast them for a day, but some people believe it is better for the betta's health (as bettas are susceptible to impacting, especially when kept in temperatures lower than 76F)

The major risk is overfeeding. A betta only needs about as much as his eye ball once a day 5-6 days a week. You can feed more often, or every other day just vary the amount of food. He'll eat himself to death if you let him. Don't let him develop a pot belly.

As far as food pellets, and flakes are okay as long as they float. So betta are picky and won't eat them. I prefer freeze dried blood worms, and brine shrimp. (Freeze dried foods keep, are less messy, and won't carry disease.) What ever you fed him remember he is a carnivore the food should list insect/worm/shrimp/fish 1st. (Of course most flakes, and pellet have some plant matter to keep things together.)

i use to breed bettas and i use to feed mine once a day, but dont listen to people who say to feed them pellets they do not like them, if u see a betta that has been eating pellets you will notice they are real skinny and slow, go to your local fish store and buy some frozen brine shrimp or frozen blood worms they come packaged, and when its feeding time break off a little piece into a little bit of water and feed it one spoonful, which will be a few peices then save the rest for other feeding times i gaurantee u will have a nice healthy betta that will go nuts everytime u walk up to it by th

You can do one big meal a day or one little meal in the morning and one in the evening(recommended) you should give it 3 pieces in the morning and 3 in the evening. But once a week give it a piece of a microwaved frozen pea and dont give it its other food,.
