I'm all for it. I just don't think the pharm companies need my tax money. Let them pay for the research, they are going to rake in the profits if and when they find all these cures.

I am all for Stem Cell research. It will be a wonderful day when we can regrow organs, limbs and skin tissue for those who have suffered traumatic losses and injury, freeing them from rejection issues and a lifetime of expensive medications and pain. I just hope that there are controls put on the "research companies" ie pharmaceutical companies so that the people who need the help, will be able to afford the help.
I note that you wrote that you are opposed to the study. I think that many ideals could be having an effect here. Perhaps you object for religeous reasons, embryonic stem cells (the very nature of them) or that Man in his arrogance (as some would say) is attempting to Create life (God'sdomain) Are these the reasons for your objection? Is is possible that man can use science and technology to improve the lives of fellow beings without violating any of these objections?
Either way, I respect your opinion of being opposed to the study, hopefully you can respect mine of being for it, with limitations.
(My four year old son's life would be greatly impoved if science and technology were able grow him a new kidney and stop his body from trying to destroy itself) so that is my reason for hope.
Sorry if this is not the answer you were looking for.

Do your research on Stem cell research and you will not need our opinions. The facts speak for themselves. There are 2 types of stem cell research. Embryonic and non-embryonic. BOTH are being used in research, but the US Government only funds non embryonic. the reports that I've read have stated that Embryonic research has pretty much been a bust. Non Embryonic though has been producing some cures. The real facts and the political story are two different things.

I am all for it. My father and mother died from cancer, my uncle died from parkinsons, my father in law has alzhiemers if I could help him by producing embryos for stem cells for a cure I'd be the first one in line. My parents and uncle were much to young to die. I saw my uncle suffer the better part of 20 years. I personally feel it is selfish to not allow for stem cell research.
by the way I only listed 4 people above...I need to include my 4 year old neice who suffers from tuberous sclerosis (sp?) and many relatives and friends that have passed or are suffereing from various illness that might be cured by stem cell research some day.
this is only my opinion...personally I think most folks who are dead against it haven't seen the suffereing first hand and just may sing a different tune if/when something hits thier lives and I truly hope it doesn't.

First you have to define what stem cells you refer to
If they already exist, most do not have a problem with it. The debate has been filled with misinformation. Embryonic stem cells are the ones where life is created and experimented on. There is no viable research on it to cure or help anything.
Then there is adult stem cells, cord blood cells, and there are others. I forget the rest. There is a lot more potential here.
Here is a question I asked on it a while back. This should help.

Adult stem cells are saving lives every day. To the best of my knowledge, embryonic stem cells are yet to produce any positive results. Until the do, we should concentrate on adult stem cells in humans & pursue embryonic stem cells in animals.
