There are many reasons why someone might not get into Stanford...one of the most selective Universities in the country...including:

1) Low grades, test scores, few activities, less than stellar letters of recommendation

2) School's aiming for a certain geographic, socioeconomic, ethnic mix and you didn't "fit" for some reason, based on others they already accepted and the current student body This actually can include other characteristics like -- major, sports played, instruments played, etc. Sometimes they need to add someone to a team or a portion of the band, that person is in and ... you're not. Just one less spot and more competition for the rest.

3) Need for loans/grants/scholarships (sometimes full-paying students catch a break if the school has basically committed to all of the aid they can/want to/plan to)

Assuming you're highly qualified, then it's somewhat a "luck of the draw" ... you'll never really know. Best to move on and find another place that's a great fit for you that you can/get into!

What a cooincidence! I know someone who just got accepted there early admission. (I'm doing regular admission like everyone else). I know that they're looking for SAT scores in the 680-700 range for math, and critical reading. Good Luck!
