The first post is correct - it is decriminalised. But this is a distinction without a difference. You can go into cafes in Amsterdam and buy dope from a menu! You can smoke it there, or take it home and smoke it. You can't actually smoke on the street.
Britain has also decriminalised possession of small quantities for personal use, but the supply of it is still illegal.
I think it should be treated the same as alcohol or tobacco - it would be a great tax revenue stream. But because the religious right controls congress, you will not see it legal here in the next 20 years.

The legalization of marijuana is something law makers should at least look into. Marijuana is not a very harmful drug and should be treated that way. Just like alcohol though, it should be used responsibly.

I think it would be a great idea. When was the last time you heard of a bar fight cause the guy was to stoned or that big accident from someone smoking a dube. I think the govn't of Canada should reconsider some prioratires, maybe taking the alcohol law away and bringing in the law for marijuana :-)
Just my opinion though :-)

Let me ask you a question. If they legalized drugs who would hire these people? Most companies have drug testing to protect the workers in their businesses. It also lowers their insurance premiums. No one could afford the rise in premiums to hire them. How would you like to work next to someone that is high all the time? For those of you that are going to say medical marijuana, you know damn well you don't give a rats @ss about their plight. What you want is to sneak legislation in the back door so to speak, so you can stay high legally. Which drug you want to legalize next? Some people are advocating all of them!

considered as a soft drug along with mushrooms and hash. by law in the netherlands you can have on your possession 5 grams of weed 5 grams of hash Gosh maybe a study should be done to see what the crime and how much income it brings in to the country. Coffee shops all around the netherlands more in amsterdam wish i had enough to go there for a month probably would never come back.

if marijuana or liquor were wiped off existence there would be a new mind altering chemical. Legalizing is not important, what needs to be done is to have laws on those who indulge and then become a nuisance or cause others harm in their altered state, similar to DUI

legalizarion of marijuana is ennestial because it would bail the governemnt out of trillinos of dolalrs of federal debt by placing an enormous tax on drugs...however, it would be worth it...marijuana results in 1/4 of the fataltiescasued by cigarettes or alcohol

I believe in Darwin's theory.
We need to legalize all drugs and let these fools kill themselves off as fast as possible, before they can reproduce and erode the human existence!
