After shave is good for smelling good but it also closes the pores and sanitizes the skin to keep you from getting infected hair folicles. It also conditions the skin, making it easier and safer to shave by not nicking yourself. Plus, it smells good!!!

I use aftershave lotion. Shaving drys out your skin (becuase you are basically cutting of the top layer of skin along with the hair) and can also lead to irritation bumps. Aftershave and especially aftershave lotions help prevent these from happening.
