France has for some time now tried to get its unemployment problem solved by having people work less hours. What has actually happened is that the shorter hours have created more unemployment because people have less money to buy things that other people make so the other people are now out of work. Sure doesn't make any sense to me.

Government control of the market seldom works. That's why free-enterprise capitalism has been so successful while state capitalism (can you say "Marxism") has met with either mediocre or disastrous results.

I'm not surprised when anything the French government does ends in failure, surrender, or allegations or greasy palms.

yea...thats along the same lines as minimum wage is here. if raising minimum wage improves the standard of living why not raise it to $100/hour
