Here are some things he will find very handy to have:
* A mineral water bottle insulator bag ( one easy to carry) to keep the cold water cool from the intense heat.
* Sunblock creams
* Mosquito repelent cream
*Something for headaches
*Box of plasters
* Prickly heat rash cream ( A MUST)
* Johnson's baby powder for putting over the cream- very soothing for heat rashes. (A MUST). He may wonder at first but will appreciate it when weather gets very hot.
* Calamine lotions for other itchy rashes.
* Lots of washable caps for protection from the sun .
*Vaseline for dry skin conditions at times.
* An Umbrella would be handy - lots of people use it to protect them from the sun.
I know a lot about the conditions from experience of visiting the Gulf, he will be able to get access to lots of stuff, it is a very modern region. Hope this helps!

This sounds crazy but send some silly string with him. I read on line where a woman is gathering all the silly string she can to send to her son in Iraq. They use it to test for trip wires because the are almost invisible. They spray it & if it doesn't fall to the ground they know there's danger.

Surprisingly, some of the things our soldiers kept writing home for were flea collars/Advantage and dog treats. They were constantly running into stray (but not wild) dogs who were painfully thin and flea bitten and, being Americans, the soldiers were not satisfied to let this go. Often the troops would share their MRE's with the dogs.
What we did was purchase dried liver snacks for the troops to carry in the many pockets of their fatigues. Same with the Advantage.
Peace and God Speed to your son

I would buy him a good bullet proof vest and a helmet cuz the US government is not providing alot of the soldiers with them and the families are having to buy them. Our government can`t seem to be able to afford these things even though our PROUD soldiers are risking their lives for our people and our Government... It`s funny how MRS Bush wore a 8500.oo dollar dress to a party the other night though.

Books are good. Find the type of genre he likes to read. It will be good to pass the time.
Phone cards are another good one.
Deck of cards.
CDs
Tape recorder. When he's over there, you can tape record messages to send to him. He will like to hear your voice along with the mail.
