I have a compaq presario 1688 laptop with 64 mb of ram, it can have up to 192 mb. What kind of ram should I get for it? I was looking at this http://www.edgetechcorp.com/store/productdetails.aspx?product_id=5391 ......also, what is the best type? ddr or sdram or what?

youll be needing a 128 MB SODIMM at PC100
that will max you out.

Dont get it from a store - actually I doubt they would carry it anymore and if they did every store would overcharge you against what you can get it online for.

Its rather inexpensive online, but very expensive in store.

DO NOT BUY REGULAR RAM. Ram in laptops are different from Ram in desktop computers. The Ram in laptops are smaller and thinner. Unfortunately, because of this, they are much more expensive. Just look into different stores that have laptop ram. An average amount of ram these days to buy is 1 gigabyte.

if you go to www.memorygiant.com they can detect the laptops memory if your using the laptop. Or you can do a basic search for it. Its a lifetime warranty there and guaranteed to work.
